✿ WIKIPEDIA Episode Bonus page ✿

Wikipedia episode!! This episode is a tiny bit of a follow up of the web revival episode, since Wikipedia is part of the core web but it's not some evil social media/search engine! Perfect topic to cover in a LOVEWEB episode. There was an impossibly high amount of things to potentially talk about so it's pretty surface level stuff. And even just covering the basics, there was a lot to talk about.
Another web revival follow up idea was about "single serving websites", talking about funny single purpose websites in opposition to how almost every big website want to do everything the competition does. Maybe some other time!

This is a bit embarassing to admit but, the shots of Manon's computer have had the wrong colors since the very start lol. I've only realised for this episode that they always have looked too satured. My video software just does that to png files for some reason!! Woaw I really gotta look into a modern video editing software like DaVinci Resolve or something.

For this episode, I was thinking of redesigning Cybermare to be more traditionally anthro. But figuring out something that looks good and how she would pose when filming was toooo hard. She perfectly takes up the screen in her usual shot in the show. Also she'd end up being much taller than Manon, they're about the same size right now only because she's on all fours. In the end I just gave her a minor proportion makeover with most notably a shorter mane. It used to be so long, feels a lot more natural shorter.

Ok so this is an episode that required a looot of research because I barely knew anything about Wikipedia before. I took the research phase super seriously and didn't want a repeat of the Hatsune Miku episode and have the episode be too shallow. Thankfully I knew a couple Wikipedia expert that could help!! I got in a call with MJ Lemonsnout with a notepad and they told me aaaall about Wikipedia, it was super interesting! I really recommend checking out their videos about Wikipedia, they were the first step into making me realise how cool Wikipedia is.

When the script was done, another Wikipedia expert elle maya helped fact checking the script! They had a ton of suggestions of what to add to the episode but sadly I couldn't possibly have the episode talk about everything, otherwise I'd still be making it!. I've accepted pretty quickly this wouldn't be a comprehensive episode.

Also Vera and playfulPretense also helped a ton with retweaking their lines to make them sound more natural when spoken out loud amongst other things! It makes so happy to see them so involved with their characters!!

Ooo more website planets, yeah these are still a thing! There's just not many opportunities to show them.

So the intro of the episode was originally going to be way more ambitious. The episode would have opened with Cybermare waiting on the surface of the Wikipedia planet for Manon. Did you know when horses are standing up with one hoof on its tip, it means they're relaxing/sleeping! You can see Cybermare doing it in that doodle if you click and zoom in!
ANYWAYS, While we watch Cybermare waiting, we'd see shots of Manon running around inside the Wikipedia planet (a giant white library) and then they'd pop out with the page they read in the episode! This would have been too much work!! So the episode starts in medias res, Manon and Cybermare are already checking out the Wikipedia page. I was also experimenting whether they should be on top or under the planet.

At first I went with starting at the top of the planet! Here's the storyboard that's been done until it was changed to having them being under the planet.

It was a looot harder to convey how massive Wikipedia was with them on top of it.

The teaser for the episode was inspired by flash loops of the early 2000! It came with music on social media. You can see a remnant of the idea that we'd see the inside of the Wikipedia planet with them being in a white library. Another idea was to have it be a library card but I really wanted to make something more bouncy and exciting.

Same goes with the release promo! Very flashloopesque and bouncy. The theme being Katamari Damacy to convey that "all encompassing" aspect of Wikipedia.
Moving forward I want to make more of these! Getting inspired by flash loops for that kind of promo fits LOVEWEB perfectly. (And it grabs people's attention better!! I hate social media!!)

Alternative idea for the thumbnail but it's not feeling that good. The current thumbnail is a lot more inspired and feels fresh rather than another "Manon happy Mare sad".

This is another thumbnail idea that was only completed after the episode was released. The episode wasn't doing good at all in terms of views so I tried this new feature Youtube has where you can set multiple thumbnails and it tests on its end which makes people click more! Woaw! So I opposed this one with the finger pointing thumbnails and the results were a perfect 50/50 lol. Guess having a girl and a lolcat doing happy hyped faces didn't bring in more people.

Before you start the episode, if you check it out right now, you'll notice that the special intro and outro talking about the Makeship partnership are gone now! Here they are archived for anyone who missed them and is curious.

Youtube allows to trim out the beginning and end of videos and Newgrounds allows replacing the whole video file, so I took advantage of it! I didn't want any future viewers to be bothered with an outdated plush partnership.

By the way, here's concept art behind desiging the plushie!

Oki episode time!

There was a good amount of people asking for a Newgrounds episode because of this mention lol. It's true though, a Newgrounds episode cannot just be 8 minutes of Manon and Cybermare in their room, it gotta be GRANDIOSE. So yeah don't expect it anytime soon lol.

It's one of these funny clouds first seen in the Gondola episode! I wasn't sure how I was gonna make them stand under the planet until I figured to bring the cloud back. You can see in the doodles from earlier I just drew Manon Cybermare on a data rail lol.

GOSH I'd love to see Manon and Cybermare interact with Homestar and Strong bad. That would be the driving force behind making an episode about Homestar Runner.

This feels like Cybermare is just self-censoring because slurs bad but the intention was more to be that she's trying to say less channer stuff.

This episode is obviously pretty meta, reflecting on the current state of the show at the time. Episodes having shifted from covering memes and underground media to way more popular topics, like Hatsune Miku, the modern internet sucking, TF2, and now Wikipedia. The show needs to reach a certain level of popularity to be able to cover whatever because right now march 2025, LOVEWEB is unsustainable!!

This episode was also made to show that there's still hope for the internet if Wikipedia can stand right next to giant evil social medias. It really does feel like Wikipedia represents what everyone thought the internet would become back in the 90s. I have a lot of respect for Wikipedia for what it represent and that really bleeds through Manon in this episode.

Epic fail! Even if it ended up being a pretty short episode, this sentence was more so to explain to the audience why this episode is not gonna go too in-depth into Wikipedia.

Please read the article on shrimp at the left if you haven't already, it always makes me laugh. This is probably what a lot of people think Wikipedia is like lol.
Mmmm good!

You'd think "Wikipedia but only pros can edit" would naturally outshine Wikipedia with its reputation of being a mess. Learning about Citizendium was the definitive proof to me that what makes Wikipedia work is its accessibility.

Talking about vandalism in a Wikipedia video is kinda something you have to be careful about. You don't wanna accidently cause Wikipedian more troubles because you gave new ideas for trolls. There was a couple funny filters that went inactive I thought of mentioning but figured it could make someone wanna do vandalism, knowning it won't get immediatly caught by a filter.

According to my research. Yeah, a lot of vandalism is caused by children because a lot of pages are editable without making an account.

Many people wanted the episode to feature Wikipetan but there wasn't any good spot to bring her up. So here she is as a Manon doodle as a consolation prize!
Also the script also mentioned more locks but it was stretching out that section too long and those 3 are the most interesting to bring up.

Manon is totally bringing up that example just because we learned they're a new TF2 fan in the last episode lol. Totally go check out the Lamest edit wars page. Elle sent it to me forever ago and it was fun to skim through it. This is some weirdly fascinating stuff.

This bit was the inspired by that internet cheat code where if you want answer on something. Instead of asking a question on Reddit, just say something wrong and you'll get corrected with the information you were looking for in no time.

The "TOBY FOX MADE YUME NIKKI" bit was inspired by a comment I got on the Yume Nikki LOVEWEB episode. At one point there's a doodle implying Toby Fox could be the one behind Yume Nikki. This is of course a joke but someone took it seriously and made me sure to let me know it's actually impossible Toby Fox could have made Yume Nikki. Silly stuff.

The live chat was a big fan of the fluffle word, I have no idea why it wasn't saved after the premiere. I always come back to reading live chat's reactions to episodes if i'm feeling low on motivation to work on the show.

You might wonder, how come this is the chart from 2020-2021 and not one more recent?
I'm gonna be real honest.
It's just because it's the chart MJ Lemonsnout showed me back when we did that call.
It never crossed my mind for a sec until the episode was done that it'd make more sense to show a more recent chart.

At first I wanted to avoid bringing up Fandom.com to keep the focus on Wikipedia but learning this bit blew my mind, it was too good to not be brought up.

Everything brought up here was originally gonna be talked about in the episode itself but they were hard to fit anywhere and ultimatly got repurposed into the episode's narrative of "We don't have time to talk about everything".

I really wanted to showcase this website in the episode since it's a big part of what made me realize that Wikipedia is a pretty special thing and wanting to make an episode about it.

There was a couple times where I had to rerecord footage of the website because it would show edit on pages that'd be inappropriate to show. I'll let you use your imagination on what these pages were.

Vera was a big fan of the "paper encyclipedia are kinda bound..." pun that I totally wrote on purpose and totally wasn't an accident because I didn't know "bound" also referred to a book's cord/tape/glue that keeps the pages together.

I LOVE the noise playfulPretense made here, it's perfectly represents Manon getting excited over Cybermare's rare approval.

The episode ends with an invitation to the viewers to go browse Wikipedia themselves, keeping in theme with the point of the show while also reiterating the fact that the episode couldn't talk about everything.
Also that ending took many attemps to feel right! There was a lot of back and forth where the ending felt either too subtle and short or too wordy and long. I think a nice balance has been struck at the end.

Anyways yay! I had a lot more lil fun facts to bring up during this episode because I'm writing this bonus page a few months after the episode released instead of a few years later! Going forward I want to write these after an episode is completed.
Thank you so much for reading!
